It would be really cool if people would go back to caring about what they looked like before they left the house. It comes from a rebellion, not wanting to do what the last generation did, and what comes from it can sometimes be the exact opposite rather than just a variation. Older generations would not be caught dead without being properly dressed to leave the house. For me it would be a suit or blazer with a tie and maybe even a fedora.

For women, not having make-up on would be considered a crime and not having her hair done would be more than embarrassing. We don't have to go to that extreme, but on the other side of it, most people have. It became cool to act as if you didn't care what your appearance was and to dress accordingly. People spent a lot of time trying to look like they just rolled out of bed. It became a fashion statement in itself; to not care and to show the world that you weren't concerned with your appearance, fashion or looking like a ragamuffin. It went from one extreme to the other and that is often how trends work. What is cool and in style today would get you ridiculed and made fun of the next day.

God help the kid that can't keep track of which sneakers stayed cool over the summer vacation and shows up at the start of school with last year's kicks on. It's a shame how much some people worry about it, but it is an equal shame that some people don't care at all and end up embarrassing themselves by the way they present themselves. Whether you want to admit or not, people are often judged on the way they look as part of how they present themselves.

This is especially true during a first encounter because first impressions only get one shot and if you screw it up, I don't care how great of a personality you have, you might not get another chance to show it. Nobody is suggesting that people be judged on how they look, many times a person can't control how they look.

Everyone has something that would change about themselves, but how you present with confidence is important. And put on a good presentation is just a way to keep them long enough to know his personality.
